OBSCURE PEOPLE << Back to the Song List

We wear the same clothes, put on the same cologne.
We walk the same streets, smell the same flowers.
We have the same jobs, follow the same routine.
Is there anything, anything different about you and me?

We have the same houses in the same neighborhoods.
We drive the same cars, work out at the same health clubs.
We attend the same schools, spout the same tired thoughts.
Is there anything, anything different about you and me?

If this world looked in on our same backyards,
Would they see a difference about us?
Are we an obscure people,
Living a life they can't explain?
Are we an obscure people,
Just living in the same place?

We drink the same beer, smoke the same cigarettes.
We date the same people, though God says not to.
We feel we must clean up, instead of asking Him for help.
Is there anything, anything different about you and me?

We attend the same churches and rob God of his tithes.
We backbite and gossip, and lean back on our pride.
We put on a false front, instead of showing who we are.
Is there anything, anything different about you and me?

If this world looked in on our same backyards,
Would they see a difference about us?
Are we an obscure people,
Living a life they can't explain?
Are we an obscure people,
Just living in the same place?

Why are we the way we are, the way we are?
Obscure people.
Why are we the way we are, the way we are?
Obscure people.
Living. We're just living.
We're just living in the same place.
