There are times in my life when you ask me to stretch
There are times when I feel that I must break for I can't bend
There are times in my life when you ask of me much more
There are times when I can't see anything but the floor
But I say,
Stretch me and grow me
Help me, protect me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go
Stretch me and grow me
You alone know me
You alone can know what will make me grow
This growing seems to come with some sweat and much tears
It requires that I follow in spite of my fears
How can I come to rely just on you?
I don't know if that is anything that I can do
Still I say,
Stretch me and grow me
Help me, protect me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go
Stretch me and grow me
You alone know me
You alone can know what will make me grow
Vulnerably aware with a sense of my lack
I know that you'll protect and hold up my back
From this crowd of my foes who see right where to kill
After this attack will I have the strength to heal?
Somehow I say,
Stretch me and grow me
Help me, protect me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go
Stretch me and grow me
You alone know me
You alone can know what will make me grow
There will never come a time when there's nothing left to do
There will always be something more that I can learn from you
You know that I long to grow more like the Son
How could I refuse to become like the One?
