DON'T BOX ME IN << Back to the Song List

See the Chords

You met me and immediately perceived me to be this certain type of person.
You can't let me deviate from this person that you've imagined me to be.
Any movement to or fro removes me from this pedestal that you have placed me on.
I feel so sorry for you for you'll never know the pieces that make me me.

Don't box me in. I'm a multifaceted person.
There are parts of me that are deeper than what merely meets your eyes.
Don't box me in. There's so much more to me.
Can't you see below the surface and see the me I hold inside?

You see me as innocent as Mary. I can just as easily become that wicked Jezebel.
You wonder if you can share all the things you've done. Trust me I'll understand and I have a few to tell.
But I have to hide these parts of my life. They'll never live up to this standard that you have for me
Why do you do this to me? Why can't you allow me the freedom to just be me?

Don't box me in. I'm a multifaceted person.
There are parts of me that are deeper than what merely meets your eyes.
Don't box me in. There's so much more to me.
Can't you see below the surface and see the me I hold inside?

Can't you see below the surface?
Can't you see below the surface?
Can't you see below the surface to me?
